Long-haired kittens had been born to Manx Cat
mothers on the Isle of Man over the years but were considered unacceptable.
In the 1960s however, similar kittens born in Canada were treated very
differently and local
breeders developed them as a separate breed.
Some cat
societies do not use the breed's Welsh name - Cymric. They just call them
the Longhair
Manx.
The Cymric cat is somewhat identical to the
Manx cat with the exception of the coat.
The Cymric cat has a long, thick coat
plus, with dense
undercoat that is thicker than the outer coat, makes the cat well equipped
and suited to cold climate of Wales.
The texture of the Cymric cat fur has
similarities to that of the Norwegian
forest Cat.
The Cymric cat has a broad
head, full round cheeks, short nose and small ears.
The Cymric cat is a good in-home cat with a
personality similar to that of the Manx cat in that they are playful,
intelligent, confident, docile, friendly and relaxed. They are also good
climbers and skilled hunters.
All colors are accepted in this breed, although
some authorities reject the color point pattern. Links For
